My teaching philosophy is that every child has the capability of learning, not just of being taught. The level to which each student can reach is dependent on a multitude of factors such as their personal motivation, family support, school resources, input and understanding from the teacher, and so much more. The role of teacher, then, is contrary to what one would think, but rather to be a facilitator and a guide through the learning process. The content of what is being taught is there in the form of textbooks. What is missing is connections of the content to the student's life, strategies for learning the new information as well as retaining it and later recalling and applying it. Perhaps the most important thing missing is the outlet for student questions. That is where the teacher comes in. For learning to take place there must be a basic foundation of understanding, a presentation of new material to challenge us, and the ability to ask probing and clarifying questions with guidance in finding the answers.
